Potato Harvest Field Day

Our Provincial Director, Seyit YILDIZ, attended the “Potato Harvest Field Day” held in Göydun Village of Hafik District, as the potato harvest began throughout our province .

In his speech, Provincial Director Seyit YILDIZ said, “Potatoes are an important industrial crop, rich in carbohydrates, starch, vitamins, and minerals, with both culinary and industrial uses. The use of certified seeds has increased disease-free, high-yield, and high-quality potato production globally and in our country in recent years.”

In potatoes, the primary factor limiting yield is seed. Regardless of the high yield potential of the selected variety, achieving the desired success will be impossible if the seed used is not healthy and has the desired characteristics.

Our province’s soils are pristine and free of potato diseases and pests, making them attractive for potato production. Due to our province’s high altitude, potatoes produced have a high dry matter content, increasing their storage stability. Less chemical pesticides are used, particularly to combat climate-related diseases such as mildew. Potatoes produced in our province are attractive, high-quality, and have proven themselves commercially, and there are no problems with potato cultivation.

For these reasons, many companies producing seed and table potatoes are coming to our province to lease land and engage in production. According to 2025 data, production in our province spans 71,180 da of land. This area produced 198,471 tons of potatoes.

According to 2025 data, production in our province was achieved on 86,996 da of land. Approximately 417,986 tons of potatoes are expected to be produced from this area. Sivas ranks first in seed potato production and 10th in total potato production in Türkiye, he said.

After the field day, our Provincial Director Seyit YILDIZ collected potatoes with our farmers and wished them a fruitful season.
